Le Scortigare e i Cordoni

A wonderful itinerary between pasture of high mountain, dense woods and signs of the First World War in Lessinia.

Itinerary description

This long and wonderful itinerary allows to excursionist to enjoy every peculiarity of the high Lessinia can offer; leaving from car park of the historical rifugio Podestaria,  you will go up to fork of leScortigare, along the ruins of the old barracks of fiscal police, and you will start to descend toward north after malga Gasparine and Trentino in Malga Scortigara di Cima. After passing the typical hut you will go to the military street and you will arrive to a fork to the border of wood. You will keep going towards the right side and you will reach quickly the northern part of the central of Lessinia, l'Aguz, where it is possible to spot chamoises, which live in these rugged places; in addition l'Aguz is characterized by some ruins of the First World War, such as foxholes, open air emplacements and tunnels. The sight that you have from here is very interesting and it is completely different from every other landscapes.

The itinerary will get back to the previous fork, to follow the road signs of track CAI 112 that, crossing a beautiful beech and fir wood and some clearings of Scortigare di fondo, reaches the most isolated hut of Lessinia, Malga Foppiano, a real balcony towards central Alps.

From the clearing of Foppiano you will go along a comfortable but arduous forestry road, which leads you to Malga Castelberto, until the dirty road adjacent to the hut. Rebuild on the ruins of a military building and modernized after a fire in 2016, the shelter has a breath-taking sight of 360° on Alps, Prealps, and level ground Padana and catena appenninica northern.

The walk continues along the dirty road, which leads you until the fork of Castelberto and then to the valley of Cordoni, between huts of Boaro lake, Costeggioli and Cornicello, until the way back to the point of beginning of Podestaria, tired for the kilometers done, but absolutely satisfied for the numerous values observed.
