From Lessinia al Carega

A simple trekking tour between Giazza's forest and the pastures toward the top of Monte Carega.

Itinerary description

Well-known Itinerary, but always amazing because it permits to admire both thick forest and pastures, in real alpino style. Leaving from Dogana Vecchia, building used as point of border and of control, you will go on for some meters until hairpin turn where sentiero Angelo Borghetti starts, trail which go to Revolto torrent. Passed the small bridge you will enter in Trentino and the trail reaches Casa Turcato e gli Orti Forestali; this place is a important place because Foresta di Giazza is reborn thanks to particular arboreal species in this place. After this shave you will go toward North along the trail E5 e CAI 185 until Lake Secco, a large wooded plain, where during the end of May you could see the beautiful flowering of Cypripedium calceolus, orchid well-known as Scarpetta di Venere. From Lake Secco you will get back to go on along the trail 185, which gains altitude rapidly; this demanding track ends to Alpe Campobrun, where you will hear the call of groundhogs. Arrived to the huts, in trentino style, you will see the ruins of a barracks of the First World War. Going on some hundreds meters you will reach Rifugio Scalorbi, close to Passo della Pelagatta, which overlook the view of Piccole Dolomiti.

From Scalorbi you will get back along the comfortable dirty military road, but for the most fit it is possible go along the trail 109, which go to Rifugio Fraccaroli and to the highest top of Gruppo del Carega, the top of 2259 metri. The way back is along the trail CAI 108B, which rejoins the dirty military street and it permits the descent toward the valley. Along this trail you will arrive to Passo Pertica and its Rifugio, and descending again you will arrive to al Rifugio Revolto e al Rifugio Boschetto, close to Dogana Vecchia, our point of departure.

Technical informations

Difficulty: itinerary with medium difference in height, mainly on signaled trails CAI and dirty road between Foresta di Giazza and the pastures and huts of height quota. Suggested period: june - october (avoid the winter for avalanches).
