La Lessinia orientale e la Madonna della Lobbia

A simple trekking trip in the eastern part of Lessinia, between woods and pastures of malghe of Campofontana.

Itinerary description

Very popular for veronesi and vicentini walkers, the extreme eastern Lessinia offers suggestive paths, rich of peculiarities. One of the most known and optimal in every period is surely the ring from Campofontana toward Pagani village Lobbia and Porto huts. After the village near cemetery, you will go on until Pagani village, one of the highest of Lessinia, over 1250 meters, embellished thanks to characteristics of houses and stables with rock with roof with a double slope. After antique spring with tank you will follow the dirty road which leads you toward malga Lobbia; the crossing of small wooded areas, in particular toward sunset, makes this part amazing. Before going to malghe, in the grassland underlying, you will see the famous Madonna della Lobbia, sculpture in rock which represents the pity.

Reached the malghe  you could admire a beautiful landscape toward north, with the peaks of Monte Terrazzo and Monte Zevola; you will continue toward top along the layouts of ski slope, overtaking Croce della Lobbia, placed on the limit of the layout; after that you will go abruptly until the wall of the border of malga, which marks the council and provincial limiti between Verona and Vicenza; exactly on the wall you will see a beautiful sculpture Madonna delle Scalette. Going on on the left you will reach Cima Lobbia and Val Faselle; our itinerary instead goes toward south, crosses the short slope which leads you to rural buildings of Malga Porto di Sotto; here the landscape and the sunset are awesome.

From malga you will start to climb down along the dirty road which places side by side Monte Formica  and it leads you toward buildings of Malga Porto di Sotto, where you will notice the dome of an old giassara.

You will still walk for some meters along the comfortable road, path CAI n° 205, and you will go back to car park of cemetery, our point of beginning.

Difficulty: itinerary with medium difference in height especially on asphalt roads, dirty roads and signaled paths between pastures and woods.
